Major Accomplishments of the IASC
National Amateur Challenge Cup.
1963 was the year when the IASC won the most prestigious soccer cup for non professional soccer teams in United States of America, The National Amateur Challenge Cup! No other team from Western New York State has ever achieved such an accomplishment.

Formation of the Lancers Soccer Team.

On the verge of conquering the National Amateur Challenge Cup, the passion for soccer continued to build, eventually leading to the creation of Rochester’s first professional soccer team, the Lancers. In 1967, most of the IASC team members under the management of the club formed a new team called Lancers. This team joined the North American Soccer League (NASL) and played in that league until 1980, when the team was dissolved because of lack of funds.

Foundation of the Italian American Community Center

In the late 1980s, the IASC started looking around to move away from the Emerson St. address, where it resided for over 35 years. Lack of parking space and unsafe location were the motivating reasons. In the spring of 1991, the club considered approaching other Italian clubs to study the feasibility of uniting and building a center that could be shared. The idea was received with great enthusiasm, not only by the clubs participating, but also by the Italian community at large. The name of the new organization was called the Italian American Community Center.

In 1948, a group of young Italian immigrants gathered at their various residences to form a soccer club and a team. The Club subsequently leased a building on Lyell Avenue to hold informal meetings and gatherings.

"The Club" as it was affectionately called, grew as a bond of friendship through soccer our common denominator. In 1956, the Club purchased a building at the corner of Emerson & Sherman and remained there until 1996 when it relocated to new quarters in on Chili Avenue.

Through the efforts of their devoted members, "The Club" acted as family and friends to those immigrants who came to Rochester seeking a new life in our new Country. The Italian American Sport Club acted as that all-important intermediary through a difficult transition of a new lifestyle maintaining the rich Italian tradition & culture.

The Italian American Sport Club received its initial boost as an outgrowth of the soccer enthusiasm of club members. In 1963, the Club won the National Amateur Challenge Cup, the only soccer team in Western New York State to obtain such a title. By 1967, the Club had become the chief promoter & contributor to the professional Rochester Lancer Soccer Team. Most of our players formed the new pro- team.

In the fall of the year 2000 in exchange for the lease at the Chili Avenue location, Olindo Di Francesco donated the parcel of land on Buffalo Road where the Club resides today. The current building on 1250 Buffalo Road in the Town of Gates was built by many members volunteering their time, skills and services. At the time of the official inauguration of the building on November 2, 2003, the membership of the IASC was just over one hundred members. Today seven years later, the membership has grown to over five hundred and fifty, a tangible sign of success due to the faithful dedication of the members, their participation and continuous cooperation.
